Teresa Lanceta: 'El sueño de la cólcedra' at Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid

Installation view El sueño de la cólcedra, Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid, Spain.

Invited in 2022 to produce a specific project for the Museo Patio Herreriano, Teresa Lanceta exhibits the result of her research on thirteenth century funeral fabrics in Castile; her study arises from an interest in the coexistence sustained in that century between the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish religious cultures inhabiting the peninsula, and their connection through textile workshops of the time. Fabrics and embroidery displayed in the Museum's Chapel relate to wars and funeral rites practiced in the region between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, demonstrating the differentiation established by death between people and power. This body of work also includes work from, and marks a natural continuation with, Lancet's "The Spanish Carpet XV" (2004-2018), a project that began two decades ago which draws upon the thriving Moorish-inspired rug industry of fifteenth century Albacete.

'El sueño de la cólcedra' is commissioned by Angel Calvo Ulloa. Continuing in the collaborative spirit that has characterized Lanceta's practice for decades, the exhibition has been realized in coordination with several artists and institutions: teams from the Royal National Heritage Collection teams; artists Angeles San José, Leonor Serrano Rivas, and Nader Koochaki, whose work can be seen with Lanceta's in the Chapel; artisan dyer Lala de Dios; architects Ester Gisbert and Alfonso Cuadrado; and a donation by the historical study initiative La Trinxera of a set of preserved utensils to accompany the series "El paso del Ebro.”
